It's not a secret that almost all people love to regularly change their desktop wallpaper because it allows them to express their creativity, mood, and interests by setting different images that resonate with them. Changing the wallpaper can also prevent monotony, inspire creativity, and provide a visual escape, making the desktop environment more engaging and enjoyable.
With elementary OS, you can easily change the wallpaper to suit your preferences. You have the flexibility to choose from pre-installed wallpapers or set a custom image from your own collection.
To change and set up the wallpaper:
Open the System Settings, and navigate to Desktop --> Wallpaper.
Click the image you like to choose from those pre-installed.
To select an image from your own collection, click Import Photo in the bottom-left. When added, you can see your image among others, and then click it to set.
If using the dark theme, you can dim your wallpaper by enabling the associated toggle in the bottom.
Select the mode to display the image:
Centered. The wallpaper is centered on the desktop and maintains its original aspect ratio. The image is not stretched or cropped.
Zoom. The wallpaper is enlarged to fill the entire desktop area while maintaining the aspect ratio. The image is scaled up to fit the screen.
Spanned. The wallpaper is stretched or tiled across multiple displays if you have a multi-monitor setup.
Pick a background color by clicking the colored button in the bottom-right. This color will be seen when a small image for the wallpaper is selected and displayed in the Centered mode.
All the steps described do not affect each other, and can be made independently.
To quicker navigate to the Wallpaper section, secondary-click anywhere on the desktop free space, and select Change Wallpaper from the pop-up.
