📖Add Online Accounts

Integrate your online services

Adding your online accounts is a vital setting to integrate your online services into the system, so you can access and manage your email accounts, calendar events and tasks directly from the native apps of elementary OS: Mail, Calendar, and Tasks.

Before adding your accounts, it is recommended to refer to the help content of your account provider's documentation where you can find relevant data to integrate properly.

Add Email Account

To use the Mail app in elementary OS, you need to add at least one account in the System Settings. Mind that adding your email account is available with IMAP method only.

To integrate your account into elementary OS, do the following:

  1. Open the System Settings, and navigate to Online Accounts.

  2. In the bottom-left, click +Add Account, and select IMAP Mail.

  3. Enter your real name, email address, password, the name as it will be displayed in the Mail app, and then click Next.

  4. At this step, the system automatically recognizes your IMAP server settings and fills all data in. Still we recommend you to verify and fix the info (if needed) before going further.

  5. Click Log In. It may take a while to connect to the server.

  1. When you see a Success message, click Close. It's done.

Voilà! Now you can open your Mail app and manage your emails.

In case something went wrong, and an error message emerged, go back and check the data you submitted at the previous steps.

Some services (e.g. Yahoo, Google) do not let you provide the regular password in third-party apps as you do in a browser, for example. You'll need to generate and use a unique third-party app password. For more info, refer to the account provider's documentation.
