# Writing ISO with Etcher

Etcher is an app that safely and easily flash OS images to SD cards and USB drives. You can [download the app from the official website](https://etcher.balena.io/).

To create an elementary OS install drive, do the following:

1. Plug in your spare USB flash drive and open Etcher.
2. Click **Select image** to choose your downloaded **.iso** file.
3. Etcher should automatically detect your USB drive; if not, select the correct one.
4. Click **Flash!** It may take a moment to get started.
